About The Lake

Lake McClure Situated in the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills, Lake McClure offers a unique combination of exceptional year-round recreational opportunities and facilities. Lakes McClure and McSwain are adjoining reservoirs on the Merced River. Maximum lake elevation is 867 ft. above sea level, has over 80 miles of shoreline, and 7,100 surface acres of water.

With over 1 million acre-feet of water storage capacity, Lake McClure is a reservoir that can produce some good-sized fish. Regular planting of trout by the Department of Fish and Game and by the District keeps the fishery productive. With introductions of the popular trophy size Florida largemouth bass, and a variety of trout strains, the fishing will only get better. Other fish species include spotted bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish, salmon, and shad (the principle forage fish).

The areas and facilities are maintained and operated by the Merced Irrigation District Parks Department. There are 584 campsites divided among the four major recreation areas. All campgrounds have free sanitary dump stations and group areas are available for large gatherings. They are equipped with modern bathrooms, showers, laundry facilities, and each having launch ramps.
