About The Lake

Located in the Sierra foothills and Mother Lode country rests Lake McSwain, which is actually the forebay of Lake McClure.

Anglers enjoy this terrific fishery, which is enhanced by the cold waters running into it from Lake McClure. The lake receives frequent plantings of trout year round. Both Lake McSwain and Lake McClure deserve their reputations as two of the best fishing lakes in California.

All of the recreation areas have free sanitary dump stations and group areas are available. The recreation areas average 400 to 1,000 feet in elevation, providing a pine and oak woodland setting. Spring and summer air temperatures reach into the 90's to low 100's, with a yearly average base of avout 70 degrees. In fall and winter temperatures are mild, with precipitation ranging between 15" and 20" annually. Rain is almost non-existent from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

The rec. areas and facilities are maintained and operated by the Merced Irrigation District Parks Department. It is the Parks Department's objective to provide a worthwhile, enjoyable, recreational experience to their visitors.
