About The Lake

New Melones New Melones Lake sits at an elevation of 1088 feet, with more than 100 miles of shoreline covered with trees and brushlands.

The lake is administered by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Department of the Interior. The dam and recreational facilities were constructed by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.

There are two recreation areas at New Melones Lake with camping facilities. The Glory Hole Recreation Area contains 144 campsites for overnight use. The Tuttletown Recreation Area has 106 sites at present with another campground planned for future use.

Fish to be found at New Melones include, Largemouth Bass, Rainbow and German Brown Trout, Catfish, Crappie, and Bluegill are the most common. Fishing season is year around, and limits are set by the California Fish and Game Dept.

The towns of Jamestown, Sonora, Tuttletown, and Angels Camp located nearby provide all services for campers.
